CHAOS ERUPTED near Pen Cinema Bridge on Saturday when a fully laden truck lost control and plummeted from the bridge onto two stationary commercial buses, leaving the driver critically injured.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the serious incident, which unfolded along Agege, Old Abeokuta Road.

Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, revealed that preliminary findings indicated the truck driver suffered severe fractures to both hands after losing control while navigating the bridge.

The truck, bearing registration number GGE 624 YJ, plunged onto the buses parked underneath, causing panic in the busy area.

LASTMA officers at the scene worked swiftly to rescue the injured driver, handing him over to the Elere Police Division.

He was later transported to General Hospital, Ile-Epo, for urgent medical treatment.

Emergency responders cordoned off the area to protect other road users and prevent further accidents.

Vehicular traffic was diverted while the LASEMA Response Unit quickly cleared the wreckage, restoring traffic flow along the busy corridor.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki issued a stern reminder to motorists, especially truck operators, to exercise heightened caution as the rainy season intensifies.

He stressed the critical importance of adhering to road safety regulations and the use of speed-limiting devices, warning that negligence could lead to catastrophic consequences.

Bakare-Oki extended his best wishes for the full and speedy recovery of the injured driver, urging all road users to remain vigilant and prioritise safety at all times.

He urged road users in need of emergency traffic assistance to request LASTMA services to contact their toll-free hotline: 0800 00 527 862.
