WORLD ENVIRONMENT Day 2025 inspired a powerful call to action as Union Bank of Nigeria Plc partnered with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation to tackle plastic pollution through a high-impact symposium held at the Lekki Conservation Centre, Lagos.

The event convened corporate leaders, environmental advocates, and sustainability experts in a shared mission to combat the escalating threat of plastic waste in Nigeria.

Under the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution,” stakeholders exchanged strategic insights and practical solutions for a cleaner, more resilient future.

Participants delved into the environmental and economic consequences of plastic waste, identifying urgent actions required across sectors.

Union Bank’s Chief Brand and Marketing Officer, Olufunmilola Aluko, reaffirmed the bank’s ESG leadership, stating that its sustainability agenda empowers communities with tools and knowledge to restore their ecosystems.

Beyond the symposium, Union Bank launched an educational outreach targeting secondary school students across Lagos.

The initiative provided recycling bins and environmental awareness campaigns to promote responsible waste management and sustainable living among Nigerian youth.

These activities formed part of the bank’s UnionCares platform, which anchors its Corporate Social Responsibility programmes focused on ethical business practices, inclusive growth, and community transformation.

The bank says it will continue to align its operations with global sustainability goals, building on a legacy of responsible banking and social impact.
