Unveiling the Diverse Cohorts of February 2024 ToT Solutions Journalism Instructors

OVER a dynamic five-day period, trainers immerse themselves in intensive sessions, mastering optimal strategies for disseminating solutions journalism.

Solutions Journalism Network (SJN)’s Train the Trainer’s initiative targets journalism educators, editors/reporters, media experts and those already involved in leading solutions journalism training.

Across five online sessions spanning two weeks, participants collaborate to generate ideas and strategies for teaching solutions journalism ─a robust approach to reporting on how individuals address challenges.

The training commences with official solutions journalism training, progressing into an exploration of teaching methodologies, the significance of solutions journalism and practical application in specific contexts.

Participants delve into four criteria of solutions journalism, global case studies and engaging exercises.

Together, participants formulate training goals, empowering respective participants to become a proficient solutions journalism trainer for their newsroom, students or journalistic communities.

Facilitated by Kyuwon Lee, SJN’s Training & Curriculum Manager, Tina Rosenberg, SJN’s co-Founder and Zubaida Baba Ibrahim, a solutions journalist and SJN accredited training in Nigeria; the training showcases a diverse line-up of dedicated participants.

·       Ben Wrobel ─ Co-founder of Proximate, a writer and advocate for participatory problem-solving.

·       Celia Haro Ruiz ─ Peace advisor in journalism with a focus on Conflict Sensitive Journalism in Africa.

·       Duygu Uzunoglu ─ Publishing Coordinator and Programmes Director of NewsLab Turkey

·       Emile Brouze ─ Journalist at L’Obs, specializing in ecology and climate change.

·       Eszter Imre-Kandó ─ Freelance Journalist from Hungary, founder of Megoldokk.

·       Francis Mureithi ─ Co-founder of the Africa Solutions Media Hub, digital editor and seasoned journalist.

·       Gjeni Platenburg, Ph.D, ─ Assistant professor of journalism with expertise in Black Identity and Media.

·       Güllin Çavuş ─ Co-founder of Teyot, leading Turkish fact-checking platform.

·       Joke Kujenya ─ Founder, Media Mentors Academy, Senior Investigative Journalist, Independent Media Trainer and Mentor

·       Katerina Voutsina ─ Journalist at iMEdD, specializing in social issues and international law.

·       Katie Ellington ─ Reporter at Richard Source, focusing on housing and education.

·       Kevin Burden ─ Independent journalism trainer and consultant, emphasizing climate change reporting.

·       Leticia Maria Klein ─ Journalist specializing in environmental issues.

·       Lola Garcia-Ajofrin ─ Multimedia journalist with a passion for solutions journalism

·       Lovely Wright ─Multimedia Journalist in Berlin.

·       Nieves Zúñiga ─ Freelance Journalist and research consultant with a focus on environmental solutions.

·       Nicola Leech ─ Head of Audience Strategy and Engagement at The National, Abu Dhabi.

·       Tammy ko Robinson ─ Professor at Hanyang University, engaged in emergent media and migration journalism.

According to the SJN, this diverse group represents its global commitment to advancing solutions journalism education and practice as participants on the project will continue to bond execution of collaborative cross-continent reporting and sharing knowledge.
