Educated at the University of Benin, he graduated with a degree in English and Literature in 1984.
He later obtained a Master’s degree in Public and International Affairs from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in 2007, equipping him with strong academic grounding for the professional path he chose.
His newsroom journey saw him rise to top editorial positions at some of Nigeria’s most respected newspapers.
He worked with The Guardian before becoming the pioneer editor of The Nation, where his leadership set editorial direction and maintained rigorous journalistic standards.

His excellence was formally acknowledged with several prestigious awards.
He received the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME) in 2010. The Nigeria Media Merit Award also recognised his editorial leadership, naming him Editor of the Year in 2013, 2015, and 2017.

Public service added another dimension to his career. In 2019, he was appointed Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State and was reappointed in 2023 after completing his first term.
