RECOGNITION FOR engineering excellence shone at the 11th Nigeria Transport Lecture and Awards as Julius Berger Nigeria PLC clinched the Quality Assured Construction Company of the Year Award, celebrating its enduring mark on the country’s infrastructure landscape.
The high-profile event, hosted in Lagos by Transport Day Newspaper, gathered leading figures in the transport and construction sectors to spotlight standout performers in national development.
Applauding the company’s legacy, Editor-in-Chief Frank Kintum described Julius Berger as a “solid trailblazer” whose work consistently reflects global standards.
He noted that the hallmark of a Julius Berger project is instantly recognisable in its durability and superior design.
According to Kintum, “Once you drive on a road constructed by Julius Berger, you easily know—and you enjoy the experience for several years, all because of its standard, quality and class.”
He emphasised that the awards screening committee had no reservations about the company’s selection, adding that its reputation sets a benchmark that challenges the rest of the industry to elevate their delivery.
Presentation of the honour fell to Dr Kayode Opeifa, Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, who handed the award to Regional Technical Manager (Region West) Mr Thomas Christl.
Opeifa praised the company’s consistency in producing timely, high-quality roads, noting its vital contributions to national transportation development.
“Julius Berger’s efforts cannot go unnoticed,” Opeifa stated. “The company continues to deliver prompt, durable solutions that enhance the country’s transport system.”
He called on other construction firms to take cues from the company’s operational efficiency and quality control.
Expressing gratitude, Christl applauded the organisers and reaffirmed the company’s dedication to excellence. “We will always maintain our globally acclaimed quality standard,” he said.
“Every challenge on our sites becomes a chance to deliver real progress.”
Held annually, the Nigeria Transport Lecture serves as a central forum for industry dialogue on transport challenges and solutions. In his keynote paper,
Opeifa called for a national shift to sustainable transport models, urging the integration of gas and electric-powered buses and better urban planning, including parking provisions to decongest roads, particularly in Lagos.
Notable dignitaries at the event included Lagos State Governor’s representative and Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer Akin George Fashola, FRSC Assistant Corps Marshal Ann Oladayo (Lagos and Ogun), and Professor Charles Asinime, Dean of the Lagos State University School of Transport and Logistics.
Julius Berger, in a statement, notes that its team was led by Regional Technical Manager Christl, alongside MRO representatives Oghenerhaye Mercy and Ogunyemi Mobolaji.
