NIGERIANS APPLYING for standard passports within the country will from September 1, 2025, pay N100,000 for a 32-page booklet with five-year validity and N200,000 for a 64-page booklet with 10-year validity, following a review announced by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Service Public Relations Officer, Assistant Controller of Immigration, ACI AS Akinlabi, confirmed that the new fees apply only to applications made within Nigeria.

“The review which only affects Passport Application fees made in Nigeria, now sets a new fee threshold for 32-page with 5-year validity at N100,000 and 64-page with 10-year validity at N200,000,” the statement read.

The NIS further clarified that application fees for Nigerians abroad remain unchanged at $150 for the 32-page passport with five-year validity and $230 for the 64-page passport with 10-year validity.

According to the Service, the adjustments are aimed at maintaining the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport while ensuring accessibility for citizens. The new review represents nearly a 100 per cent increase on the existing rates.

The latest development comes barely a year after the last adjustment. In August 2024, the federal government raised the fee for a 32-page, five-year booklet from N35,000 to N50,000, while the 64-page, 10-year booklet was reviewed from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000.

The NIS reiterated its commitment to delivering quality service while balancing the need for accessibility.

The Service stressed that despite the upward review, the passport remains a secure and internationally recognised document designed to protect the identity of Nigerian citizens.

For Nigerians abroad, the existing fee structure remains in place, as the Service confirmed no changes to charges for diaspora applications.
