SOME NINGERIA nationals abandoned in the Bambari region of the Central African Republic have been located by government officials and are scheduled for evacuation to Bangui with military escort on Saturday, 26 July 2025.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Embassy in Bangui had re-established contact with the affected individuals, following the circulation of a distressing video showing them stranded over 850 kilometres from the capital.

The Ministry stated that officials had retrieved the workers’ passports and dispatched a vehicle to facilitate their movement from Bambari to Bangui.

Ongoing discussions are also in place with the company allegedly responsible for the abandonment, focusing on interim accommodation and welfare pending repatriation to Nigeria.

The Embassy is collaborating with local authorities to ensure the safety and protection of the workers.

The government expressed deep concern over the incident, describing the situation as a clear reminder of the need for vigilance among Nigerians travelling abroad for employment.

The Ministry advised prospective migrant workers to thoroughly verify the legitimacy of foreign employers and ensure all documentation is in order before departing the country.

It further urged Nigerian citizens abroad to register with the Embassy upon arrival in any host country to assist with consular support in emergencies.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of Nigerians across international borders.
